About Rāzna National Park

Rāzna's one of Latvia's most important wetland habitats. We're talking about 4,000 hectares of pristine shoreline, dense forests, and marshland that's home to over 200 bird species. The park isn't just beautiful — it's genuinely protected. You'll notice the difference when you visit. The air's cleaner. The wildlife's abundant. And you're actually helping conservation efforts just by being here respectfully.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know before visiting

1

What's the best time to visit?

Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) are ideal for bird watching. That's when migratory species pass through. Summer's great if you want warmer weather and full picnic facilities. Winter's quieter but cold — bring proper gear.

2

Do I need special permits?

No permits needed for general visiting and picnicking. The park's open to the public. Just respect the protected areas — stay on marked trails and follow posted guidelines. Photography's encouraged, actually.

3

What should I bring?

Binoculars are essential for bird watching. Waterproof jacket, good hiking boots, and insect repellent make a real difference. We've got a full guide on gear — check the essential gear article for specifics.

4

Are there facilities at picnic spots?

Five main picnic areas have tables, parking, and basic amenities. Not all spots have restrooms — it varies. We've reviewed each location separately so you know what to expect before you go.
